D c5 b1ne e. Adore this film, but I have to admit having read the book that your version flows better, also kudos for getting rid of irulan's oh, I forgot to say line at the beginning. That always bugged me ever since my first viewing. What an absurdly clunky bit of dialogue. Even as a kid of ten or eleven watching the film for the first time I wondered how that line got past an edit. EDIt: actually, having thought about it now, I think Villeneuve has a hell of a lot to live up to with his adaptation. I'm cautiously optimistic, but I worry that (if blade runner 2049 is any indication) that it'll be at least competent, somewhat visually striking, but a bit cold and austere, lacking some of the soul that this version has.

I thought it was needed so that I could better understand and appreciate Lynch's vision of what is considered a corner stone of sci-fi. I'm not going to lie and say that I loved the novel. I found it pompous and boring. Still I feel it would have deserved a better adaptation to the silver screen.
Plot is incomprehensible mess, I have read the novel and I still was unable to concentrate to what was going on on the screen.
Acting and casting were for the most part atrocious. People who shouldn't have gone anywhere near this project were dragged in and held at gunpoint until they agreed to utter their lines from que-cards. Or that's my impression based on how they were handling themselves in the final product.
Special effects were quirky and outdated even to 80's standards, safe to say that they're obsolete today. Perhaps this one shouln't affect my judgement, but my first valiant effort in wading through this mess happened in year -89, and at that time I stopped watching purely for the sake of how this compared to movies I had previously seen by looks.
Details, details, details. I wouldn't know where to begin. True to himself, Lynch cherry-picked the most revolting aspects of the original and exaggerated them beyond recognition, then made up some completely new ones and tried to squeeze them in with poor results.
End result is a boring and confusing wreck of a movie which leaves a bad aftertaste and makes the viewer want a long, scalding-hot shower to get rid of the filthy feel it leaves on the skin.
